It's not a secret to anyone that I have big boobs. (Never could be)
Having big boobs comes with certain challenges you don't realize unless you have them.
I never had big boobs until one day they were just there. This, for me, is a total situation of "be careful what you wish for". I never want to discourage anyone from having something they want, but believe me - they are not all they're cracked up to be!
There are several clothing items that are difficult to find good options for if you have a larger chest. It doubles in the challenge department if you're also plus size. One of those clothing options, for me, has always been actual high-impact sports bras. I love to jog, take spin class, kickbox, do dance cardio and all of these things are difficult to do if you've (a) got boobs bouncing around in your face and/or (b) have a black eye from said bouncing boobs.
So, I set out to find the best in the business. It is worth noting, that there is a certain element of personal preference here, and I'm going to talk about facts, figures, and feelings in this review.
A couple of months ago I started scouring the internet for high-impact sports bras for plus-size women. I read so many specs, details, and reviews. I looked at pictures, dissected the construction and materials, and found (what I believed to be) the best 4 options.
Glamorise Sports Bra
$28.44 on Amazon
34C - 50J
Made of Polyester, Nylon, and Elastane
Back closure
This one was a major no-go from the start. It felt like almost 0 support from the time I put it on. It's definitely not a pretty bra, either, but if it had given support I would have absolutely not cared that it looks like a white granny bra.
Shefit
$65 on the Shefit website
XS - 6Luxe
Made of nylon, spandex, and polyester
Zipper closure
I remember seeing Shefit on Shark Tank several years ago. At the time, the price point was totally out of reach for me to even think about spending on a sports bra, so I put them out of my mind. But, when I embarked on this experiment I knew I had to include them in the testing. I have never been more disappointed in a product. You know that guy from high school that every girl (including you) had a crush on? The one that everyone idolizes and you think about long into college even and beyond? And then you see him at the store one random day in your 30s and he is not but a shell of what you remember him to be? That was the Shefit bra experience for me. As a plus size woman, I have cried over a lot of clothing items over the years and their bra, sadly, falls in that category as well. Look, when you have big boobs, it's difficult enough to put on a sports bra. It's like a workout in and of itself, but you should not be so exhausted and so close to tears trying to put the bra on that you don't even want to complete the workout. That said, this bra is my biggest no.
Fabletics - Faye High Impact Sports Bra
$44.95 (vip pricing) on the Fabletics website
XXS - 4X
Made of Fabletics fabrics powerlite, powerhold, and powerform material
I really liked this bra - this bra was my #1 pick until I tried the winner. I love the aesthetic look of it with the multiple straps on the back, but that was ultimately the thing that knocked it out of first place - just for me. It is a great bra that really holds you in and I love the Orchid Smoke color I got.
Core 10 "Fierce Pleats" Sports Bra
$32 on Amazon
XS - 3X
Made of Polyester and Elastane
This is my winner winner, chicken dinner! I loved it from the second I put it on and then when it held up like a magic trick during my workouts it was a no-brainer. It feels like I have support, but am wearing nothing, and I love the mesh detail in the back. It is comfortable, functional, and eye pleasing. I can't recommend it enough. It comes in 4 colors and I will be ordering all the colors!
